Students’ Choice and Motivation for Journalism Education in Indian Private Universities

Abstract
The study of journalism and Students’ choice for learning has hardly recognised in the age of technology and proliferation of media industries. India has witnessed unprecedented growth of private vocational journalism institutes, where Students’ choice for learning in journalism education remains inadequate attention. The paper brings an attempt to explore the Students’ choice for learning and their future aspirations. The empirical survey results indicate that aspirations of the diverse Students’ communities in private institutions can not only be met through interdisciplinary approach and cultural specific pedagogies, but social inclusiveness in media education can bridge the gap between supply and demandin the media sector.

Jyoti Ranjan Sahoo is an assistant professor at School of Media and Communication Studies, Galgotias University, Greater Noida, India. He is also pursuing PhD at Centre for Culture, Media and Governance at Jamia Millia Islamia, New Delhi. His research interest are media life, sociology of media and anthropology of communication.
Dr. Amitabh Srivastava is a professor and officiating dean at School of Media and Communication Studies, Galgotias University, Greater Noida, India. He has keen research interest with development communication, communication strategy, media education, print media and political communication.
